OSCAM x Keti Koti Festival ‘De Komma’
July 1 2023 | Museum Square Amsterdam
As curator of ‘De Komma’, I had the honor of presenting this one-day exhibition at Museum Square, Amsterdam, in collaboration with OSCAM x Keti Koti, on the occasion of the 160th Commemoration Year of the Slavery Past.
‘De Komma’ invited visitors to engage with the enduring influence of Dutch colonial history and its visible impact on our shared present. Through the lens of six artists of color, the exhibition explored themes of memory, reconciliation, and collective reflection on the history of transatlantic slavery. Each artist brought their unique perspective and creative approach to interpreting this complex legacy, shaping a narrative that recognized historical suffering while also highlighting resilience, creativity, and hope.
The exhibition encouraged reflection on the Black perspective in shaping the future and uncovered aspects of history that are often overlooked, revealing the role of slavery in the Netherlands’ historical development.
Ultimately, ‘De Komma’ celebrated the power of art to foster dialogue, acknowledge the past, and uncover the beauty that emerged through reconciliation.
